Update: Abia Government Steps In, Pays N25m for Ngozi Nwosu’s Surgeries After Actress Sought Public Support

The Abia State Government has provided N25 million to support the medical treatment of veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu, who is currently receiving care for an undisclosed health condition.

The development was announced by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Dr Justice Okey Martins, popularly known as JMartins, in a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, July 30.

According to Martins, the funds were paid directly to the hospital handling the actress’s treatment, fulfilling Governor Alex Otti’s earlier promise to assist with her medical expenses.

He wrote: “Yesterday before the close of work, His Excellency @alexottiofr, our pragmatic leader, made good his promise, directing a N25 million payment to the hospital’s account where our Nollywood legendary actress Mrs Ngozi Nwosu is receiving treatment.”

Martins also expressed appreciation to the governor for his support, describing the gesture as an act of kindness that would be remembered.

The intervention comes days after the 62-year-old actress appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance to cover the cost of three urgent surgeries. Nwosu had revealed that she had spent about three weeks in the hospital and was struggling to meet the rising expenses associated with her treatment.

In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page, the actress appealed to her fans, colleagues, friends and well-wishers not to abandon her during her health challenge.

Ngozi Nwosu, known for her memorable roles in Nigerian television and film productions, has remained one of the respected figures in Nollywood, with a career spanning several decades.
