Nigerian singer Jaywon has added his voice to the growing online campaign urging South African music star Tyla to cancel her planned performances in Nigeria.
The calls come amid renewed discussions about past incidents of xenophobic attacks in South Africa, during which several foreigners were reportedly assaulted and their businesses damaged.
Reacting on social media, Jaywon criticized the Grammy-winning “Water” singer for what he described as her silence on those incidents. According to him, the current situation makes it inappropriate for Tyla to perform in Nigeria, suggesting that she should remain in South Africa for now.
His comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users supporting his position while others argue that artists should not be held responsible for the actions or political issues of their home countries.
