Oyo Abductions: Nigerian Man Criticises First Lady Remi Tinubu’s Silence, Compares Situation to Patience Jonathan’s 2014 Outcry

A Nigerian man has publicly criticized First Lady Oluremi Tinubu over what he described as her silence following the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

Speaking in Yoruba during a broadcast on Agidigbo FM, the man condemned the federal government’s response to the incident, drawing a comparison with the May 2014 abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls. He recalled how then–First Lady Patience Jonathan publicly reacted to the tragedy, a response that later attracted widespread public criticism and mockery.

He said:

“There are three-year-old children, five-year-olds who have been abducted and taken into the forest. While the rain is falling, those little children have been in the forest since last Friday.

“I want to ask a question: we have not heard anything from the First Lady since the abduction. We all remember, ‘Na only you waka come. There is God ooo!’

“Even the wife of the state governor hasn’t said anything. None of the wives of the lawmakers have even visited the scene of the abduction. Are they really good mothers?

“The wife of the President is going about campaigning for her husband. We remember how Goodluck’s wife was panicking then—people even made jest of her, saying, ‘Na only you waka come? There is God oo!’

“None of these women have spoken. Aren’t they women anymore? They are now following their husbands to campaign.”
