A businessman has questioned why some men place more emphasis on submission and respect than on building a stable home.

He made the remark in response to a tweet by actor Yul Edochie, which read:

“Men, stop tolerating nonsense in the name of marriage or a relationship.

“If your wife or girlfriend doesn’t respect you, dump her immediately and find someone who does.

“Your respect as a man is non-negotiable.”

Reacting, Kelvin Onovo wrote:

“A lot of Nigerian men today are fighting harder for submission than they are to build an actual home, and I genuinely don’t understand it.

“Ask many men what they want in a wife, and before anything else—before peace, partnership, or a woman who genuinely wants to build something with them—you’ll hear ‘respect’ and ‘submission.’

“What’s this obsession with submission and respect?

“Why not a home that works?

“Why not a wife who is your actual friend?

“Why not children who grow up watching their parents laugh together?

“Why not peace in your own house?

“What is it about being submitted to that so many African men cannot get off their minds?

“If you turn right, it’s submission; if you turn left, it’s respect.

“Can somebody genuinely help me understand this?”
