Two suspects have been arrested by the Yobe State Police Command for alleged murder and drug abuse-related offences in Damaturu.

The suspects, Musa Mohammed, 24, and Abdullahi Musa, 20, allegedly used an axe and other dangerous weapons to murder Adamu Suleiman Saidu, 33, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, 21.

One of the cases involved a fatal attack in the Bindigari Primary School area.

The command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed on Wednesday, April 8, in Damaturu that a distress report was received at ‘A’ Division Police Station on April 7, 2026, at about 2:10 p.m., regarding a violent attack that had occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the Bindigari Primary School area of the Damaturu metropolis.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that Adamu Suleiman Saidu, 33, was allegedly attacked by Musa Mohammed, also known as ‘Aljan,’ aged 24, following a misunderstanding believed to be linked to substance abuse.

“During the altercation, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with an axe, inflicting severe head injuries, while the suspect sustained minor injuries during the fight.

“Police operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene, arrested the suspect, and recovered the axe used in committing the crime, which has been registered as an exhibit,” he said.

Abdulkarim stated that the victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Damaturu, for treatment but died while receiving care. He added that investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be prosecuted accordingly.

In a separate incident, the police said officers responded to a violent fight between two young men in the Abari community on April 5, 2026.

“At about 1:00 p.m., officers attached to ‘C’ Division, Damaturu, responded to a distress call involving a violent fight between Al’amin Abdullahi Musa, 20, of Abari, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, 21, also of Abari.

“The dispute reportedly started over a borrowed T-shirt but escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, punches were exchanged, causing one of the parties to fall unconscious,” he said.

The police spokesperson added that the victim was taken to the Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, where he was confirmed dead.

“Abdullahi Musa has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing,” he said.

Abdulkarim urged parents, community leaders, and civil society organisations to support efforts aimed at addressing drug abuse among youths.

The command reiterated its commitment to tackling crime and criminality across Yobe, noting that the continued reduction in the state’s crime rate reflects sustained cooperation and support from community members.
