Several players of the Senegal national football team have taken to social media to react after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) controversially overturned their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph.

CAF’s Appeal Board ruled that Senegal forfeited the final match in accordance with Article 84 of the competition’s regulations, awarding a 3–0 victory to Morocco.

In a statement, CAF said:

“The CAF Appeal Board decided that, in application of Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Senegal National Team is declared to have forfeited the Final Match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, with the result recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF).”

The ruling comes after a dramatic finale in which Senegal players briefly walked off the pitch in protest following a controversial penalty awarded to Morocco in stoppage time. Although captain Sadio Mané later convinced his teammates to return—and goalkeeper Édouard Mendy saved the resulting spot-kick—Senegal ultimately won the match in extra time.

Since CAF’s decision, several Senegalese players have shared their reactions online, posting images and videos from their title-winning moment. Midfielder Pape Ciss shared a picture with the trophy accompanied by laughing emojis, while defender Moussa Niakhate wrote, “This is not AI. This is real,” alongside snapshots from the final.
