The management of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, has approved the rustication of 20 students found guilty of various forms of examination malpractice.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the institution’s Director of Information and Protocol, Nasiru Abdul, who said the rustication will take effect from the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session.

Abdul explained that the decision followed the appearance of the affected students before a disciplinary committee, after which the committee’s report was submitted to the university’s Senate for ratification.

The statement read:

“The Senate of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), has approved the rustication of 20 students found guilty of various forms of examination misconduct, with effect from the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session.

“Approving the verdict after receiving the Students’ Disciplinary Committee report during the 138th regular Senate meeting held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the Twin Theatre of the main campus, the Chairman of the Senate and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman, said the decision was in accordance with Section 13.3, Subsection 13.3(c) of the university’s Policy on Examination Irregularities and Academic Misconduct.

“Prof. Othman commended members of the committee for their commitment to FUDMA’s examination misconduct policies and for ensuring adherence to due process, fairness, firmness and justice.

“He said the Senate’s decision is meant to send a clear signal to all students to comply with the university’s rules and regulations governing examination conduct, while also serving as a deterrent to those who may attempt to engage in malpractice.

“All the affected students were given the opportunity to appear before the committee to defend themselves.”
