Iran has warned US President Donald Trump to “be careful not to be eliminated” after he said he did not believe the regime’s new Supreme Leader could “live in peace.”

Trump had earlier told Iran to brace for “death, fire and fury” for keeping the Strait of Hormuz shut before also threatening its new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said the new Supreme Leader would be unable to “live in peace” and added that he was “not happy with the appointment,” having previously warned that he would have the final say over Iran’s leader.

However, Iran’s security chief Ali Larijani dismissed Trump’s remarks, saying the country “is not afraid of your empty threats.”

He added: “Even those greater than you could not eliminate the Iranian nation. Take care of yourself not to be eliminated.”

Larijani’s warning comes just days after an Iranian operative was convicted over an alleged assassination attempt against Trump during the 2024 presidential race.

Trump’s campaign had earlier been warned by national security officials that Iran was targeting him and allegedly had multiple kill teams inside the United States.

Asif Merchant, a Pakistani national who prosecutors say was trained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was found guilty of the assassination plot on Saturday.
