Actress Sarah Martins has issued a public apology following criticism from the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, over her recent street cooking activities.

Known for preparing meals for destitute and hungry children, Sarah had previously been warned by the Lagos State Government against cooking on the streets, as it posed safety risks and violated traffic laws. She complied for a time, but last week returned to the area to cook, citing her desire to reconnect with the children she had grown fond of.

In a statement released on Saturday, March 7, Commissioner Wahab expressed surprise at her actions, reminding the public that while charitable efforts are appreciated, cooking on the road is strictly prohibited. He warned that continued street cooking could lead to legal consequences, including apprehension and prosecution.

Following the backlash, Sarah Martins took to Instagram to clarify her actions and tender her apology. In her post, she explained that she did not cook on the main street or walkway but rather in front of the King’s Palace, under security supervision, far from traffic and public obstruction.

She shared that her visit was motivated by the bond she shares with the vulnerable children, who often plead with her to return. Sarah also emphasized that her foundation regularly uses a charity kitchen provided by Seyi Tinubu for organized feeding programs and assured the public that future cooking activities would strictly follow proper protocols.

Her full apology read in part:

“My brief return to that location was never intended to create any form of public nuisance, but simply to share a heartfelt moment with children who have continued to ask for my presence. However, if my actions were perceived as inappropriate in any way, I sincerely apologize. I hold the laws and environmental standards of Lagos State in the highest regard. Going forward, I will ensure that all cooking activities are carried out strictly within the charity kitchen provided for the foundation.”

Sarah concluded by thanking the Commissioner and his office for their efforts in maintaining environmental order in Lagos State.
