A 36-year-old woman allegedly set her boyfriend’s house on fire after a domestic dispute in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on Friday, March 6, 2026.
Members of the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called to the scene at around 14:43 after residents reported that a woman had set a house alight.
According to witnesses, the woman was seen carrying a blue carrier bag into the house and later exiting with the bag appearing empty. Shortly after, smoke was observed coming from the premises.
Members of the public confronted the woman over the fire and allegedly assaulted her. When interviewed, she explained that she had recurring issues with her boyfriend but did not provide further details. She claimed she went to his home to conduct a wellness check, believing he might harm himself. However, she stated that he was not at the house when she arrived, and she left the property.
The homeowner later arrived and informed the RUSA officers that the woman is his girlfriend. He had previously dropped her off at her residence in Canelands, KwaZulu-Natal, and was unaware she had traveled to his home.
The woman was handed over to the Ndwedwe SAPS for further investigation.
