The Anambra State Government has warned that students who fail to attend school on Mondays risk a one-week suspension, as authorities step up efforts to restore full academic activities across the state.
The directive was issued by the Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during a meeting with the management of Mount Olive Schools and Springfield Academy GRA in Onitsha on Wednesday, March 4.
Chuma-Udeh said the warning follows instructions from the state governor, Chukwuma Soludo, aimed at ensuring schools operate normally on Mondays. The two schools were summoned by the Ministry of Education to explain their alleged noncompliance with the government’s directive on Monday attendance.
“This measure reflects the State Government’s commitment to ensuring full resumption of academic activities on Mondays across Anambra. I urge schools to comply with this directive,” the commissioner stated.
During the meeting, Mount Olive Schools’ management reported improvements in student attendance in recent weeks, while officials from Springfield Academy noted that some parents remained hesitant to send their children to school on Mondays.
Both institutions, however, pledged to intensify efforts to ensure regular student attendance at the start of each week.
