A mother and her son narrowly escaped death after their car overturned multiple times at the NYSC Bus Stop along the LASU-Isheri Expressway in Lagos State.
The lone accident occurred on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
The victims were rescued from the wrecked vehicle with visible bruises and mild physiological trauma. Family members later arrived and took them to a medical facility for further evaluation and treatment.
The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident in a statement.
According to Taofiq, the lone but serious crash involved a Lexus sport utility vehicle that overturned several times at the NYSC Bus Stop corridor along the LASU–Isheri Expressway, resulting in the remarkable survival of a mother and her son.
Preliminary findings revealed that the Lexus Jeep (KJA 39 JT), travelling from Isheri towards Igando, suddenly lost control and overturned three times before coming to a stop amid heavy peak-hour traffic.
“Exhibiting notable alacrity and professionalism, LASTMA operatives deployed within the axis quickly mobilised to the scene and carried out a coordinated rescue operation,” the statement read.
“The occupants — a mother and her son — were successfully extricated from the severely damaged vehicle with visible bruises and mild trauma, narrowly escaping what could have been a fatal incident.
“Security reinforcement was promptly provided by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Igando Division, who maintained crowd control and secured the scene throughout the rescue and evacuation operations.
“Upon receiving notification, family members of the victims arrived shortly after and conveyed the woman and her son for further medical evaluation and care.
“To prevent secondary accidents and reduce traffic congestion along the busy corridor serving the Lagos State University axis, LASTMA officers coordinated the evacuation of the damaged vehicle with support from officials of LASEMA. The vehicle was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation and necessary administrative procedures.
“The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed relief that the incident did not result in any loss of life.
“He wished the victims a speedy recovery and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to rapid emergency response, proactive traffic management and sustained road safety enforcement.
“Bakare-Oki also urged motorists to observe speed limits and carry out routine mechanical checks, particularly on critical components such as braking systems, before embarking on any journey.
“He stressed that excessive speed, especially when combined with mechanical faults, remains a major cause of serious accidents on expressways.”
