Suspected bandits abducted a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye, along with 10 villagers, and killed three others during an early morning attack on Karku community in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Fr. Asuwaye, the parish priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Karku, and the other victims were kidnapped during the raid.
Residents said heavily armed attackers stormed the community, firing sporadically before taking the victims away. The attack also left the community in shock and fear.
The Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kafanchan, Jacob Shanet, confirmed the abduction in a statement, calling on Christians and people of goodwill to pray for the victims.
“Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, with deep sorrow, we announce the kidnapping of our priest, Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye, the parish priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Karku, Kauru LGA of Kaduna State,” Shanet said.
