The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has taken a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his recent remarks on the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.
On Monday, February 2, Wike stated that he is particularly interested in the PDP’s activities in Oyo State—a comment widely seen as a challenge to Governor Makinde, who leads the party in the state.
Speaking at a PDP National Executive Council meeting, Wike, an archrival of Makinde, emphasized his interest in the party’s structure in Oyo State, where the governor holds sway.
In response, Governor Makinde, while inaugurating a new PDP secretariat, described Wike’s remarks as “misplaced,” asserting that the Oyo chapter of the party remains stable, focused, and united.
He added, “In Yoruba land, we always say that if you see a house or compound that is peaceful, the vagabond in that house has not grown up. The vagabonds in PDP had their time in 2015 and for the next 10 years, they practiced their mischief in the party. But they were expelled in November 2025—so there are no more vagabonds in PDP.
“Someone claims to have interest in PDP in Oyo State. I ask him: what has he done for the PDP in his home state of Rivers?” Governor Makinde concluded.
