Nollywood Filmmaker Stanley Amandi Arrested Over Alleged Coup Plot Against President Tinubu

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanley Amandi was reportedly arrested alongside military officers accused of planning a violent attempt to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration, according to Premium Times.

Amandi, a director and former chairperson of the Enugu State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, was taken into custody in September 2025. His last activity on Instagram was recorded on September 19, 2025, just before the arrest. This is the first time his alleged involvement in the coup plot has been made public.

According to reports, Amandi was allegedly hired to serve as a propagandist by the coup conspirators, who reportedly planned to assassinate top government officials. The alleged plot targeted President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House Tajudeen Abbas, among others.

On Monday, the Defence Headquarters confirmed the existence of the plot, stating that the investigation had been completed and forwarded to the “appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.” The statement described the probe as comprehensive, noting that it examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel.

The military further revealed that several officers were implicated in planning to overthrow the government, a conduct deemed “inconsistent with the ethics, values, and professional standards required of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.” Last October, 16 officers were being investigated for alleged coup involvement, initially cited for “indiscipline and breach of service regulations.” Subsequent investigations have led to the arrest of more officers and civilians, including Amandi.

Civilian suspects, like Amandi, are expected to face trial in civil courts, while military officers will first appear before court martials, followed by possible civil proceedings. Sources indicate that senior military officers and civilians implicated in the alleged plot could face both military and civil charges as the investigation continues.

Stanley Amandi has a long-standing career in Nollywood, known for his work as an actor, director, and production manager. His notable projects include:

The Album – Director

Tiger King – Director and Producer (2008)

Cornerstone – Producer (2019)

Once Upon a Dream – Actor (2024)

This development marks a serious escalation in the high-profile case involving both military personnel and civilians allegedly plotting to destabilize the government.
