The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered the closure of the Onitsha Main Market for one week following traders’ non-compliance with the state government’s directive to disregard the Monday sit-at-home order.

The Anambra State Government had earlier warned that it would take firm action against businesses and government officials who continued to observe the sit-at-home directive issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

During a visit to the market on Monday morning, Governor Soludo observed that a large number of shops were shut, indicating compliance with the sit-at-home order. In response, he immediately directed that the Onitsha Main Market be closed for one week, with the shutdown expected to last until Monday, February 2.
