Adeniyi Kayode, the 46-year-old driver involved in the tragic accident that claimed the lives of two of Anthony Joshua’s friends, appeared in court today, January 20, at the Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State, where his trial is set to begin.
Kayode faces four charges, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver’s license.
The court granted Kayode bail of ₦5,000,000 with two sureties, and the trial has been scheduled to continue today, January 20, 2026.
The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and was reportedly caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking. While professional boxer Anthony Joshua survived the crash, it tragically claimed the lives of his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.
Journalists and legal representatives have gathered at the court premises, awaiting the commencement of the high-profile trial.
