British-Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested in Hollywood following an alleged incident involving a ride-share driver.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 12. Police said Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle, allegedly physically assaulted the driver, and made criminal threats. Authorities confirmed that the driver was not injured.

BBC News reported that the 24 star was released after posting a $50,000 (£37,000) bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 2.

This is not the first time Sutherland has faced legal trouble. In September 2007, he was arrested on drunk-driving charges after failing a field sobriety test. He later pleaded no contest to a DUI charge and was sentenced to 48 days in jail.

Reflecting on that experience in a 2022 interview with NME, Sutherland described his time in custody, saying: “This isn’t like prison, this is kind of a warehouse. In a way, prison is a refined experience compared to county jail.”

Sutherland first rose to prominence as a film actor in the 1980s, starring in titles such as The Lost Boys, Young Guns, and Flatliners. He later achieved major television success in the early 2000s with the action series 24, earning both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his portrayal of counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer. The series ran from 2001 to 2010 and was briefly revived in 2014. He also starred in the political thriller Designated Survivor, which aired from 2016 to 2019.

The actor is the son of acclaimed actor Donald Sutherland, who died in 2024 at the age of 88.
