Troops of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have recorded another operational success with the rescue of six kidnapped victims in the Kajuru/Kujama general area of Kaduna State.
The rescue operation was conducted on January 5, 2026, as part of a coordinated series of military operations across multiple locations in Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia, and Kagarko Local Government Areas, including border communities around Kauru.
Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. He said the operations were deliberately designed to further restrict the activities of violent extremists within the Joint Operations Area (JOA) and the wider Sector 1 OPFY area.
According to the statement, troops responded swiftly to a distress alert on the movement of violent extremists around the Kasso adjoining hills.
“Troops of Sub-Sector 5, who were already conducting clearance operations in the Kujeni general area, immediately mobilised to the location,” the statement said.
“Upon arrival, the troops made contact with the criminals and engaged them with effective suppressive fire, forcing them to flee in disarray into the surrounding forest. The gallant troops then exploited the area, leading to the successful rescue of six kidnapped victims.”
The rescued victims were safely handed over to representatives of Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council for onward reunification with their families.
Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, commended the troops for their professionalism and bravery. He charged them to remain on maximum alert and sustain an aggressive operational tempo to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
