The Trump administration has announced that Venezuela’s leader, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife will face “the full wrath of American justice” over alleged drug trafficking and terrorism-related offenses.
US Attorney General Pamela Bondi confirmed on X that both Maduro and his wife, reportedly removed from Venezuela by US forces, will be tried on American soil. They are already facing charges in a New York federal court, including narco-terrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation conspiracy.
The announcement came after former President Donald Trump claimed that US forces had captured Maduro during a “large-scale strike” on Venezuela, conducted in coordination with US law enforcement agencies.
Trump shared the news on Truth Social, stating that Maduro and his wife had been flown out of the country following the operation. He added that he would provide further details at a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, where he has been spending the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
