Etuku described the accident as “fatal and very unfortunate,” noting that one of the 12 victims was a child.

According to him, the crash occurred at around 11:30 p.m. in the Iboko community of Idah Local Government Area, involving an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus operated by Romchi Mass Transit.

The ill-fated bus, Etuku said, was travelling from Abuja to the eastern part of the country when it collided with a parked, faulty articulated vehicle due to over-speeding.

The sector commander added that his personnel carried out rescue operations, rushing the injured to Mercy of Jesus Hospital in Ejule for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited in the morgue.

Expressing his condolences to the families of the victims, Etuku reiterated the dangers of excessive speed and reckless overtaking by motorists.

“At this yuletide season, motorists must be careful and strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to prevent such accidents and the loss of precious lives,” he said.

“I believe this is one way to help the FRSC and the federal government reduce the alarming rate of road traffic crashes and fatalities in the country.”
