No fewer than 45 captives — comprising men, women, and children — have been released and handed over to the Bakori Local Government authorities by repentant armed bandits led by a kingpin, Alhaji Isiya Kwashen Garwa.
The handover took place on Monday, November 17, 2025, in a border village between Faskari and Bakori Local Government Areas. The event was witnessed by the member representing Bakori at the Katsina State House of Assembly, Engr. Abdurrahman Kandarawa.
Their release fulfils the promises made by the repentant bandits during an earlier peace dialogue with government representatives.
Speaking after securing the release, Kandarawa thanked the repentant bandits for honouring the agreement and reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to pursuing lasting peace. He stressed the importance of dialogue and peaceful coexistence between the Hausa and Fulani communities, noting their long-standing history of mutual relations.
Isiya Kwashen Garwa urged all levels of government to guarantee safety and unhindered access to the town for other repentant members of their group to support sustainable peace and stability among all parties involved.
