The Chairman of Funtua Local Government Area in Katsina State, Hon. Abdu Goya, has met with armed groups involved in banditry under the guise of a peace initiative.
Goya’s engagement with the groups comes amid heightened diplomatic tensions following U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent military action threat and the designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over alleged religious persecution.
According to SaharaReporters, the meeting, held in parts of Funtua, was aimed at strengthening ongoing peace efforts between Hausa communities and armed Fulani groups who had previously clashed violently.
During the visit, Goya reportedly focused on fostering mutual understanding, rebuilding trust, and reinforcing dialogue between the rival factions. He also advocated for the release of individuals abducted during earlier conflicts in the area.
The local government chairman emphasized that his mission was to deepen the existing peace process and sustain reconciliation between the armed Fulani and Hausa communities in Funtua.
