Plus-size model and body positivity advocate Tess Holliday says she was left “in a state of shock” after a United Airlines flight attendant allegedly told her to lose weight during a first-class flight with her 9-year-old son.
The incident reportedly occurred earlier this week on a flight from Tampa, Florida.
Holliday, 40, recounted the encounter in an interview with People magazine and in a TikTok video. She said it began after she accidentally pressed the flight attendant call button with her hip while using the restroom.
When she exited, the flight attendant allegedly initiated a 10-minute conversation about her weight. According to Holliday, the attendant told her that losing weight would be in her “best interest” and went on to share a story about his “very, very large” sister who had recently experienced discrimination on a flight.
Holliday said the attendant added that he agreed his sister needed to lose weight and emphasized that “the long-term effects of our size aren’t good for our health.”
