The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a Chinese national in connection with the improvised explosive device (IED) explosion that rocked a CCTV camera store on Kodesho Street, Ikeja, earlier this year.
The blast, which occurred on April 11, 2025, claimed two lives and left five others injured, causing widespread panic in the busy commercial district.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, apprehended the suspect — identified as Joe Gu — around 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at his residence located at No. A11, Bila Vista, Banana Island, Ikoyi.
Sources disclosed that the arrest followed intensive investigations into the explosion, after the complainant identified the Chinese national as a possible mastermind of the attack.
Preliminary findings revealed that Gu had previously been in business with the complainant, but their partnership reportedly went sour in 2013 following a serious dispute. During the fallout, the suspect allegedly threatened to disrupt the complainant’s business operations, investigators said.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to uncover his motive and level of involvement in the explosion.
Police authorities have assured the public that further updates on the case will be made available as the investigation progresses, reaffirming their commitment to uncovering the truth behind the tragic incident.
