The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an alert over the circulation of counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets in Nigeria.
In a statement released today, August 22, the agency revealed that Promasidor, the authorised manufacturer of Cowbell, discontinued the production of Cowbell “Our Milk” in September 2023 and replaced it with Cowbell “Our Creamy Goodness.”
According to NAFDAC, the counterfeit products currently in circulation mimic the packaging of the discontinued “Our Milk” and are neither produced nor distributed by Promasidor. The fake products illegally use the brand name, NAFDAC registration number, and packaging design.
The agency warned that consuming counterfeit milk poses serious health risks, including exposure to toxic chemicals, unapproved additives, or diluted ingredients, which could result in foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, organ damage, or even death. Infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are particularly at risk.
