The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has responded to allegations claiming he used his position to allocate massive parcels of land to his sons.

According to the circulating reports, Wike allegedly allocated 2,082 hectares of land to one son through a company named JOAQ Farms and Estates Limited, and another 1,740 hectares to a second son, Jordan a total of 3,822 hectares, said to be worth around $6.45 billion.

Wike, however, strongly denied the claims, describing them as an orchestrated attempt to tarnish his reputation. “First, calculate land in Maitama and Asokoro and tell me where you’d get 2,000 hectares of land,” he said during a recent media chat. “And I know where it is coming from. It is from Adamawa State. I am aware.”

Challenging the credibility of the allegations, the minister questioned the logistics of such land allocations in Abuja’s high-brow districts. “Where in Maitama and Asokoro can you find 2,000 hectares? Bring the documents, bring empirical evidence,” he demanded.

Wike also defended the rights of his children to own property as Nigerian citizens. “Assuming though not conceding that my children applied for land. Are they not citizens? Are they Ghanaians? Even if they applied, are they not entitled because I’m minister?” he asked.

The minister maintained that the accusations are politically motivated and unsubstantiated.
