The Principal Special Assistant to the Governor of Benue State on Youth and Media Mobilization, Hon. Atu Terver Joseph, has suspended his Chief of Staff, Mr. John Ukeyima, and Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Lubem Terkula, for participating in the “End Benue Genocide” protest.
On Sunday, June 15, youths in Benue State took to the streets to protest against the rising wave of violent attacks and killings across the state. The protest followed a tragic incident in the Yelwata community, Guma Local Government Area, where approximately 200 people were reportedly killed between Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14, by armed assailants.
Following the protest, Terver issued a suspension letter to both aides, citing insubordination.
In the letter dated Sunday night, June 15, Terver accused Ukeyima and Terkula of defying the government’s stance by publicly participating in the protest.
“This letter serves as formal notification of your immediate and indefinite suspension from your positions as Chief of Staff and Chief Press Secretary, effective June 14, 2025,” the statement read.
“This decision has been made due to your actions, which are considered to be in direct violation of the express directives of your Principal. Such conduct constitutes a serious breach of your official duties and the trust reposed in your offices.”
Terver added that during the suspension period, both aides are barred from performing any official duties or representing his office in any capacity.
