The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos State to carry out urgent repairs.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, confirmed the closure in a statement on Tuesday, May 13. The closure is set to begin at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, and will last for 21 days.

During this period, some sections of the bridge will be fully closed, while others will experience partial closures.

Kesha explained that the repairs will involve lifting the bridge deck to replace worn-out bearings, along with other critical maintenance work. The aim of the repairs is to enhance the safety and comfort of both motorists and pedestrians.

“We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but this is a necessary step to maintain the bridge in good condition and ensure the safety of all road users,” she said.

She added that traffic diversions have been carefully planned, and traffic officials will be present to guide motorists and ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

Kesha also appealed to residents, commuters, and business owners in the area to plan their movements in advance and cooperate during the closure.

“Safety signs and traffic management measures will be in place to minimize disruptions. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate the patience of the public,” she concluded.
