Ange Postecoglou has fired back at Arsène Wenger after the former Arsenal manager questioned whether winning the Europa League should grant entry into the Champions League.
Tottenham currently hold a 3-1 advantage over Bodo/Glimt in their Europa League semi-final. Speaking ahead of the second leg, Postecoglou defended the competition’s rewards and took a veiled swipe at Spurs’ critics.
“I’ve said it before – Spurs does crazy things to people,” he said. “You put that club into any conversation and suddenly everyone wants to diminish it.
“Why is it an issue now? Last year, finishing fifth didn’t get you into the Champions League. This year it does. What’s the difference? There’s no asterisk saying you need to meet extra criteria.”
While expressing his respect for Wenger, Postecoglou couldn’t resist a parting shot: “It’s Spurs – people love to be upset by it. I love it. Bring it on.”
