Manchester United has reportedly made significant progress in their pursuit of Victor Osimhen, initiating formal discussions with the striker’s representatives.

Foot Mercato confirmed that a meeting recently took place between the Nigerian forward’s entourage and Manchester United, marking the beginning of official talks between the two parties.

Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan during the most recent transfer window, has enjoyed a stellar campaign, scoring 33 goals and providing 8 assists in just 37 appearances across all competitions.

According to Foot Mercato, the 26-year-old striker is attracting attention from two primary destinations ahead of the summer transfer window: Saudi Arabia and the Premier League.

Al Hilal had previously made a €50m offer for Osimhen last summer, but the striker opted for a move to Turkey instead. However, Saudi clubs remain interested in acquiring him, with Neom, a Saudi Arabian-backed project, now reportedly monitoring the situation.

The report also suggests that Osimhen favors a move to the Premier League, where clubs are more likely to meet his wage demands of €12 million per year. This significant salary requirement narrows his potential suitors primarily to English clubs.

“As a matter of fact, England is the only league that can accommodate the incredible salary demanded by the player, namely €12 million per year,” Foot Mercato highlighted, emphasizing the financial appeal of a Premier League move.

Manchester United is believed to be leading the race for Osimhen in England. The Red Devils’ hierarchy, dissatisfied with their current attacking options, have compiled a shortlist of four players for the number nine role. Osimhen is a prominent name on that list, alongside Victor Gyökeres and Liam Delap, with Gyökeres seen as the top target, especially if United secure Champions League qualification through the Europa League.

Foot Mercato further reports that Napoli will demand a fee in excess of €75m, including bonuses, to release Osimhen. “It will likely take more than €75m, bonuses included, to secure Osimhen from Napoli,” the report stated.
