An 18-year-old boy in Anambra State has reportedly impregnated no fewer than 10 girls, prompting public concern and a call for assistance from the state government.
The Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, revealed the situation in a Facebook post, stating that the case had exceeded the capacity of her office and she was seeking public advice on how to address it.
According to Obinabo, the teenager was initially sent to serve as an apprentice under a businessman. However, just three months into the arrangement, he allegedly impregnated both his boss’s daughter and a salesgirl working at the same establishment. He was subsequently sent back to his village.
Shockingly, within two months of returning to his hometown, the young man is said to have impregnated eight more girls.
Speaking in a live video, Obinabo expressed her concern:
“I need advice from the public because this matter is beyond me. This boy was sent to learn a trade at the age of 18. Three months into his apprenticeship, he impregnated his oga’s daughter and the salesgirl. He was sent packing. Two months after that, he impregnated eight more girls in the village.”
Obinabo added that the boy’s mother had visited her office to seek help, saying she now lives in constant fear whenever she sees young girls approaching their home.
“The mother said that anytime she sees a girl walking towards her house, her heart skips. She’s overwhelmed and seeking help.”
The commissioner raised the possibility of a spiritual cause and asked the public for suggestions.
“I asked the boy what kind of charm he uses to lure the girls, but he said he simply tells them he loves them and wants to marry them when he becomes successful. Given his age and the number of girls involved, I truly need guidance on how to handle this situation,” she concluded.
