Kevin De Bruyne to Leave Manchester City This Summer, Will Not Play at Club World Cup

Kevin De Bruyne will not extend his contract with Manchester City to participate in the Club World Cup, according to The Mirror.

The Belgian midfielder is set to leave City this summer when his current deal expires, having expressed surprise at not being offered a new contract.

Sky Sports News reports that Aston Villa have held internal discussions about a potential surprise move for the soon-to-be free agent, who turns 34 in June.

De Bruyne’s contract runs until the end of June, which coincides with the middle of FIFA’s newly expanded Club World Cup in Miami. Players have the option to extend their contracts by two weeks to feature in the tournament, but De Bruyne has reportedly opted not to do so.

As a result, the playmaker is expected to bid farewell to City fans on the final day of the Premier League season, May 25, in an away match against Fulham. His last home appearance at the Etihad Stadium is set to be against Bournemouth.
