Ruud van Nistelrooy says he is still waiting to learn whether he will remain as Leicester City manager following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
The Foxes were consigned to the Championship after a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at the King Power Stadium last weekend. The loss marked a continuation of poor form under the Dutchman, with Leicester earning just eight points from 20 matches since his appointment.
Van Nistelrooy, 48, revealed that he has already met with the club’s owners and board to outline his vision.
“I’ve told them how we move forward as a club,” he said. “I know what my plan is to bring the club back, but I’m waiting on alignment. The quicker the decision, the better—for the football club.”
Leicester are set to face Wolves at Molineux on Saturday at 15:00 BST.
Van Nistelrooy signed a three-year contract in November, replacing Steve Cooper, who was dismissed after only 157 days in charge. However, the former Manchester United striker was unable to halt the team’s decline. This marks Leicester’s second relegation in three seasons.
The defeat to league leaders Liverpool was the club’s 16th loss in 18 games and extended a dismal run at home, where they have now failed to score in nine consecutive Premier League matches—a new top-flight record.
Tensions among supporters were evident before Sunday’s match, as a light aircraft flew over the stadium carrying a banner that read: “King Power Clueless Sack The Board.”
