WAEC Releases 2024 WASSCE Results for Private Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2024 second series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates. A total of 65,023 candidates sat for the examination.

In a statement issued on Sunday, February 16, WAEC’s Acting Public Affairs Officer, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, disclosed that 34,878 candidates, representing 53.64%, secured credit and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. Among them, 16,886 (48.41%) were male, while 17,992 (51.58%) were female.

Adesina further revealed that 62,354 candidates, accounting for 95.90% of the total examinees, had their results fully processed and released. However, 2,669 candidates (4.10%) are still awaiting the processing of some subjects due to errors attributed to them. Efforts are underway to complete the processing as soon as possible.

The statistical analysis showed that 43,923 candidates (67.55%) obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, regardless of whether English Language and Mathematics were included.

Meanwhile, WAEC withheld the results of 2,577 candidates (3.96%) due to alleged examination malpractice. Affected candidates have been advised to visit the WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal at https://waecinternational.org/complaints to respond to the allegations. WAEC stated that all reported cases would be investigated, and candidates’ representations would be reviewed before decisions are made by the council’s appropriate committee.

Candidates can check their results via www.waecdirect.org before accessing digital copies of their certificates on the WAEC Digital Certificate platform (www.waec.org).

WAEC also confirmed that the examination took place in Nigeria from Friday, October 25, 2024, to Friday, December 20, 2024. The coordination and marking of scripts were conducted at five marking centers in Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, and Kaduna between Wednesday, January 15, and Tuesday, February 4, 2025, with 3,327 examiners participating in the process.

For the first time, the 2024 second-series WASSCE for private candidates was conducted in two modes: the traditional paper-and-pen format and a computer-based hybrid option. Candidates chose their preferred mode during registration.
