Nnamdi Kanu Accuses Justice Binta Nyako of Bias, Calls for Recusal
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has accused Justice Binta Nyako, the judge overseeing his trial, of bias. Kanu claims that her son and husband are facing corruption charges and alleges that she is under pressure to convict him in exchange for leniency towards her family.
During his court appearance, Kanu did not hold back in his criticism of the Nigerian judiciary, stating, “Poor knowledge of the law is killing Nigeria.”
He argued that his advocacy for self-determination is not a crime, citing legal judgments that he believes invalidate his prosecution. Kanu also referenced Supreme Court rules to support his claim that Justice Nyako’s handling of the case lacks fairness, calling on her to step down from the trial.
Furthermore, he reiterated his longstanding accusation that the Nigerian government “kidnapped” him from Kenya, labeling his extradition as a violation of international law and his fundamental human rights.
As the trial continues, Kanu’s allegations raise further concerns about judicial independence and the fairness of the legal proceedings against him.
