The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has called for an emergency meeting to address the escalating insecurity in the nation’s capital.
The recent surge in kidnappings and banditry has raised concerns, prompting Wike to convene a gathering on Tuesday. Participants included security agency heads, key officials from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), council chairmen, and traditional rulers.
During the meeting, Wike urged the council chairmen to fulfill their responsibilities and assured residents of enhanced security measures in the area.
Emphasizing the need for a re-strategized security apparatus in the FCT to address the growing insecurity in the nation’s capital, Wike called for a concerted effort.
The meeting followed closely after First Lady Remi Tinubu expressed sorrow over the death of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, one of the young girls abducted on the outskirts of Abuja.
In a post on her X platform, the First Lady extended condolences to the victim’s family and urged security operatives to intensify their efforts.
“With a heavy heart, I acknowledge the devastating loss of Nabeeha and extend my deepest condolences to her grieving family. In such difficult moments, I urge the nation to join in fervent prayers for the safe return of these girls. Let us hold the families close to our hearts in prayers,” she wrote on Monday night.
“I urge our security agencies to escalate their endeavors in tackling the urgent issue of kidnappings and insecurity in our nation. Ensuring the safety and prompt return of the Al-Kadriyar sisters and others in captivity must be our topmost priority.”
