The internet, which had been offline for three days, was reinstated on Wednesday in Gabon. This came after a faction of army officers announced the nullification of election results, which had granted President Ali Bongo Ondimba another term in office.
In response to the conclusion of polling on late Saturday, Bongo’s government had enforced a widespread internet shutdown. Their rationale was to curtail the dissemination of “false news” and mitigate the potential for violence.
