West Ham United have officially announced the acquisition of Ghanaian footballer Mohammed Kudus from Ajax in a substantial £38 million deal.
Kudus underwent a comprehensive medical assessment on Saturday, August 26th, upon arriving in London via a private jet, accompanied by West Ham’s technical director, Tim Steidten.
This agreement between the parties involved entails a total value of €41.5 million, along with an additional €3 million in potential add-ons, resulting in a total of £35.5 million plus an extra £2.5 million for Kudus.
Marking the fourth addition to the club’s summer signings, Kudus joins the ranks of Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, and Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Kudus has formally committed to a five-year contract with West Ham, with the club emphasizing their successful outmaneuvering of fierce competition from some of Europe’s premier clubs to secure the services of this attacker.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Kudus conveyed, “Since my childhood, I’ve nurtured a dream of playing in a league of this caliber. Joining West Ham is a realization of that dream, and I’m absolutely elated. Nevertheless, this is merely a stepping stone; my determination is to persistently improve.”
He added, “My intention is to captivate the fans through my style of play, as I believe that’s at the heart of football. I’ve arrived with the objective of giving my utmost and contributing to the team. This opportunity fills me with immense joy.”
‘I pledge my dedication to the club emblem. I’m eager to commence this journey.’
Notably, Kudus drew interest from several clubs during the summer transfer window, including Brighton, Arsenal, and Chelsea.
The forward showcased his prowess by netting four goals across three matches for Ajax this season, a performance that culminated in an unforgettable Europa League hat-trick against Ludogorets Razgrad before finalizing his transition to West Ham.
David Moyes, West Ham’s manager, lauded the club’s administration and Tim Steidten for their tenacity in securing Kudus’s signature.
Moyes expressed, “We’re thrilled to welcome Mohammed to West Ham United. He’s an exceptional young talent, already proving his mettle on the grandest stage with Ajax in the Champions League and amassing over 150 senior appearances at just 23 years of age. It comes as no surprise that numerous top-tier clubs vied for his signature this summer.”
He continued, “The acquisition of a player of his undeniable caliber to the London Stadium showcases the magnetism West Ham now exudes. The Board and Tim deserve immense credit for their resolute efforts in finalizing this deal.”
