Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised questions regarding the academic records of President Bola Tinubu.
Atiku, who stood as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 general elections, has initiated a challenge against Tinubu’s election victory. He chose to express his concerns on X, formerly recognized as Twitter, by raising questions about the educational qualifications of the former Lagos State governor.
“This morning, I found myself pondering how we arrived at this cul de sac. Back in 1999, @officialABAT asserted that he had attended St. John’s Primary School in Aroloya, Lagos, before advancing to Children’s Home School in Ibadan. He mentioned that his educational journey then took him to Government College Ibadan, and later to Richard Daley College and Chicago State University in the United States. However, in an intriguing turn of events in 2023, Tinubu seems to have settled only for @ChicagoState,” he tweeted on Sunday.
“I find myself perplexed. How could this be? It appears to me that all well-meaning Nigerians should share in the confusion I feel regarding Tinubu’s statement: claiming no primary and secondary education, yet possessing a university degree. Perhaps it’s time to direct questions to #AskTinubu, in hopes of understanding how he accomplished this, and possibly learn from his resourcefulness.”
His statement arises as the Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) holds back its judgment on the petitions submitted by Atiku and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP). These petitions contest the validity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s pronouncement of Tinubu as the President of Nigeria.
In the exercise, Atiku followed behind Tinubu, as indicated by the results released by the electoral authority, with Obi securing the third position.
