The release of the results for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been officially announced by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Patrick Areghan, WAEC’s Head of Nigeria’s Office, announced the examination results in lagos. Out of the 1,613,733 candidates who took the exam, 1,476,565 candidates (91.5%) have had their results fully processed and released.
He further stated that 137,168 candidates (8.5%) are awaiting complete processing of some subjects due to various factors such as shortcomings, lack of diligence, incomplete CASS upload, disregard for rubrics, and other issues associated with the concerned schools and candidates.
The WAEC executive, nevertheless, emphasized that diligent measures are currently underway to promptly finalize the resolution process. This will facilitate the swift processing and imminent release of results for all impacted candidates in the upcoming days.
Areghan has announced a significant improvement in the pass rates of candidates. Out of a total of 1,361,608 candidates, a remarkable 84.38 percent have achieved credit or higher in a minimum of five subjects, with or without English Language or Mathematics.
Furthermore, an impressive 1,287,920 candidates, constituting 79.81 percent of the total, have secured credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including both English Language and Mathematics.
In a related development, WAEC has indicated that the results of 262,803 candidates, comprising 16.29 percent of the overall number of examinees, are currently withheld due to various reported incidents of examination malpractice.
It is worth noting that this figure marks a notable improvement, being 6.54 percent lower than the 22.83 percent recorded during the WASSCE for School Candidates in the year 2022.
