Okoye Blessing Nwakego, the TikToker who was found guilty by a federal high court sitting in Lagos of defaming actress Eniola Badmus, has managed to avoid imprisonment by paying a fine of N150k.
it was reported that the TikToker faced a two-count charge related to cyber stalking. The charges alleged that she and one Chimabia, who is currently at large, conspired to commit felony cyberstalking between December 2022 and July 2023 in Lagos, falling under the jurisdiction of the honorable court. This action was considered an offense punishable under section 27 of the cybercrimes (prohibition, prevention, etc) act 2015.
Furthermore, it was claimed that Nwakego and Chiamabia knowingly transmitted offensive communication that could lead to danger, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will, and needless anxiety towards the actress.
After her arraignment, she was convicted on the charges by the federal high court on Wednesday, August 2. Nwakego was sentenced to one year of imprisonment with the option to pay a fine of N50,000 for count one. For count two, she received a two-year imprisonment sentence with the option to pay a fine of N100,000. The imprisonment terms are to run concurrently, while the sentences for the consecutive charges will be served consecutively.
In order to avoid spending time in jail, Nwakego has now paid the fine that was attached to her conviction.
