Thirty-four suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested after operatives of the Quick Response Squad of the Delta State Police Command raided a location in Opete, believed to be a hub for cybercrime activities.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the operation followed information received from a distress caller who reported that her younger brother had sent a message claiming he was being held hostage and forced to engage in cybercrime.
Edafe said the raid uncovered an organised network of young suspects operating from a residential apartment converted into a cybercrime base, with all 34 suspects apprehended at the scene.
Items recovered include 37 laptops, one iPad, seven mobile phones, and a calabash containing suspected charms, highlighting the scale and organised nature of the operation.
He added that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ activities.
