The Ghana Football Association has sacked head coach Otto Addo less than three months before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The decision, confirmed in a statement issued in the early hours of Tuesday, came hours after Ghana’s 2–1 friendly defeat to Germany at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart.

The loss extended the Black Stars’ poor run of form to four consecutive defeats, including a heavy 5–1 loss to Austria last week.

In a statement released overnight, the Association confirmed that Addo had been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

Addo had been in charge of the national team since 2024, recording eight wins in 22 matches.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately,” the statement read.

“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours.

“The Ghana Football Association will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course.”

Ghana have been drawn in Group L for the tournament, where they will face Croatia, Panama, and England in North America.
