A Nigerian lawyer has shared the story of how a young woman allegedly spent four to five months in prison custody for an offence committed by her brother.

In a video posted online, the lawyer, who uses the TikTok handle @celebrity_lawyer1i, said the woman was arrested and arraigned before a magistrate court on a charge of “grievous bodily harm.”

She explained that the woman’s counsel appeared before the magistrate and argued that she was not responsible for the offence, insisting that it was her brother who committed the act, and urged the court to strike out the case against her.

The lawyer added:

“In Nigeria, if somebody wants to deal with you, they will deal with you, to be very honest. Even though she has a cause of action to institute a case for malicious prosecution, I am sure she did not even explore that. Welcome to Nigeria, where anything can happen and nobody gets questioned for it. Sad.”
