Al-Jazeera anchor, Mehdi Hasan, has released past video clips of presidential aide Daniel Bwala making critical remarks about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—statements Bwala denied during an appearance on Hasan’s show.

Bwala was a guest on Hasan’s Head to Head programme, and the exchange quickly drew attention from Nigerians on Friday, March 6. During the interview, Hasan questioned why Bwala is now speaking in support of a government he had previously criticised. He referenced several past statements Bwala had allegedly made about President Tinubu, all of which Bwala denied.

Hasan recalled an instance where Bwala allegedly claimed that Tinubu and his associates created a militia group used to attack members of the opposition.

“I never said that,” Bwala responded.

Hasan then stated that Bwala had also claimed the militia group created by Tinubu and his party members attempted to kill him. Bwala again denied making such a statement.

“He doesn’t have… I never said he tried to kill me,” Bwala said.

The Al-Jazeera anchor further referred to another past comment in which Bwala allegedly said he was unable to eat after Tinubu “fraudulently” came to power by rigging the 2023 presidential election.

“I never said that! Where?” Bwala responded in shock.

“What you just said now, I want to put it on record, on my honour, that is not what I said.”

In the final segment of the footage released, Hasan played video clips that appeared to show Bwala making the statements in question.
