The Abia State Police Command has arrested a woman for allegedly killing her husband, an immigration officer, over claims of infidelity.

It was earlier reported that the officer, Chidiebere James, who was serving at the Abia State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife following a domestic dispute in Umuihi, Umuogba Ekeoba, in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, February 16, 2026.

According to reports, the crisis began on Sunday after a heated argument between the couple over their sick child and the officer’s alleged inability to provide money for the child’s medical treatment. The disagreement reportedly escalated after the wife allegedly discovered incriminating text messages on her husband’s mobile phone and accused him of infidelity.

The state Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday.

“The suspect was promptly arrested and is being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department over a case of murder,” the Commissioner said.

An eyewitness, who is also a close family member, confirmed to Punch that the deceased’s body had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

Also confirming the incident on Monday night, the traditional ruler of Ekeoba Ancient Kingdom, Oba The Great, HRH Iheanyi Nwokenna, said, “I have just been told about it. I am just returning from a trip.”

The development has thrown the Umuihi Umuogba community in Ekeoba into mourning, with residents expressing concern over the growing cases of domestic violence in the country.
