Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has stepped aside from two cases involving Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
During the resumed hearing on Thursday, February 12, Justice Egwuatu told the court that his decision to withdraw was based on personal reasons and in the interest of ensuring justice.
The cases, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), involve a 16-count charge of money laundering against Malami.
In December 2025, the EFCC traced 41 properties linked to Malami, collectively valued at around N212 billion, as part of its investigation into his tenure in office. The assets include hotels, residential buildings, land, schools, and a printing press, spread across Kebbi, Kano, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
