The Lagos State Government has intensified its crackdown on illegal street trading, conducting a series of clean-up and enforcement operations across major parts of the state.

According to the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the exercise targeted areas where street traders had taken over roadways, causing traffic congestion and posing safety risks to road users.

Wahab disclosed that the Environmental Task Force carried out enforcement operations along Ogudu Road near Ojota Junction, Iyana-Ipaja Under Bridge, and Egbeda Junction.

He explained that traders had encroached on public roads in these locations, disrupting traffic flow and endangering public safety.

During the operations, authorities seized various goods and wares, while 15 individuals were arrested for violating state regulations.

The commissioner added that all those arrested will be arraigned in court, and the confiscated items will be forfeited to the state in accordance with existing laws.

“Street trading is illegal in Lagos, and we will continue to enforce the law firmly and fairly to ensure our roads remain safe, orderly, and accessible to all road users,” Wahab said.

The Lagos State Government has once again urged residents and traders to comply with environmental and traffic regulations to avoid sanctions.
