A second-year university student has died after being stabbed near a campus in Leicester, sparking widespread grief among his family, friends, and the local community.

Khaleed Oladipo was taken to hospital following what police described as a “very serious incident” close to De Montfort University. Emergency services were called to the scene, with four ambulances and an air ambulance dispatched to Leicester city centre. Despite the efforts of paramedics and hospital staff, Khaleed later died from his injuries.

In a statement released through police, his family paid tribute to an “extremely loved” son and described their devastation at his loss.

“We cannot begin to put into words how sad we are to have lost Khaleed,” the statement read. “He was an extremely loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend. Khaleed was a good boy who loved his family. He was in his second year at university, and we were so proud of him.”

The family shared that football was one of Khaleed’s greatest passions. He had played since the age of four and was a devoted Arsenal supporter. They believe he was on his way home to watch a match when the stabbing occurred.

They also expressed gratitude to members of the public who stopped to help, as well as the ambulance service and hospital staff who worked to save him. The family thanked police for their ongoing investigation and said they were struggling to understand why the attack happened.

“We know that getting justice for Khaleed will not bring him back, but we will make sure that he gets the justice he deserves,” they said.

Originally from London, Khaleed was living in Leicester while studying. Police said he was involved in an altercation before being stabbed, and that the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

Leicestershire Police have confirmed that an 18-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. A post-mortem examination found that Khaleed died as a result of a stab wound to the chest.

De Montfort University’s Vice-Chancellor, Katie Normington, confirmed that the victim was a student at the university. In a statement, she said: “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by what has happened. We are offering direct support to students, staff and the family of the victim.”

She added that the university is working closely with Leicestershire Police as the investigation continues and thanked the Leicester community for its support during this difficult time.

Police have launched a murder investigation and are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
